Hey John.

I’d like to get to the bottom of this. You’re the first person who’s booted NetBSD on an “EB164” type machine in quite some years, I think. There were a flurry of variants of that system type, each with different on-board ATA controllers, as well as different core logic chipset revisions etc., so knowing what chip and revision that’s on your specific machine is going to help a lot.

In particular, 164LX had the “Pyxis” flavor of the 2117x core logic chipset (which was also used on the Personal Workstation), and the Pyxis definitely had some quirks that required software workarounds. It’s entirely possible some additional work is needed there.

If you could send me the entire “dmesg” output (on- or off-list, up to you), that’ll be a good start. In the mean time, I need to root through my documentation archive, I guess :-)

Thanks!
