Well 4.99.31 kernel builds for me on alpha 20071003 src, but my userland 
3.0.2; dbus, dbus-glib2  linked programs: xfce4-wm, firefox, thunderbird 
all dump core files on start.
This kernel is not usable here. I backed up to 20061130 src, since i 
need ral0 driver for Ralink wireless card, and installed 4.99.4 on my 
3.0.2 system, userland works so far. Sorry i can not help here.
