I compiled the same code on IRIX with the MPISpro compiler and gcc
3.2.2. The gcc -O3 code didn't run and -O2 code was about 20% to 25%
slower then code compiled with MIPSpro and not too agressive
optimization.

I didn't compare gcc versus the DEC cc on Tru64, but I expect the same
for Alpha. (Probably any RISC archtecture.) :-(
