I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit this, but I'm using a similar
scheme on a PC164-based machine. I load my kernel from a cheapie IDE
disk, and it mounts its filesystems (even /) and swap space from a big,
fast SCSI disk connected to a QLA-1080.

   This scheme works fine.
