I've replaced the Toshiba cdrom XM-5602B with a Toshiba cdrom XM-6202B
and it fixed the problem. The Toshiba cdrom XM-5602B I removed does not
appear to be defective. I installed it in an Alpha PWS600au and installed
Digital Unix 5.1A without any complications. I'm still curious as to what
the problem was with the Toshiba cdrom XM-5602B when installing NetBSD
1.6.1 or 1.5.2.

Thanks for the help!
