Well, I tried and got a kernel eventually, only to find out it was filled
with garbage from the disk blocks that were there before (incidentally,
I was somewhat amazed, after it wouldn't boot /netbsd, to find out the
kernel file contained old Usenet postings (the system disk was used in a
netnews machine earlier...)
I rebooted and tried to redo the compile but then it started spitting
error messages right away. So I'm now stuck somewhat.
I'll setup another alpha with netbsd these days so I can at least compile
kernels.

correction: when compiling things (like a debug kernel, cough cough...),
the problem occurs almost instantly.

correction: garbage files have been produced by now.
