Hmm, weird.

I've searched port-alpha mailinglist for similar problems, some messages 
say Alpha does not need XF86Config, and that it should just "work".

But DOES X on Alpha really support VGA? You sure?
Hope so :)

I use 1.6B kernel and 1.5ZC userland, if that matters...

Since no configuration is made, I just try 'startx' which gives me this:

unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device
unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device
unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device
unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device
unable to get frame buffer info: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Fatal server error:
no screens found
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
