I have two AS255's, and they have no " 4"s in the model strings.
They claim to be

Alpha boot: available memory from 0xa3a000 to 0x7ffe000
	Digital UNIX V3.2D-1 (Rev. 41); Thu Jun 20 11:00:32 JST 1996
	physical memory = 128.00 megabytes.
	available memory = 117.77 megabytes.
using 484 buffers containing 3.78 megabytes of memory
	AlphaStation 255/233 system
and
Alpha boot: available memory from 0x86a000 to 0x7ffe000
	Digital UNIX V4.0D (Rev. 878); Wed Jul 14 12:11:44 JST 1999
	physical memory = 128.00 megabytes.
	available memory = 119.57 megabytes.
using 484 buffers containing 3.78 megabytes of memory
	AlphaStation 255/300 system

(from OSF/1 booting message).
