My multia runs also with diagnositcs option on, with a 1.5.1_ALPHA
kernel and with 198 days uptime now. So, I find it hard to believe
that the DIAGNOSTIC option is to blame for your (past?) troubles.
I wouldn't rule out hardware trouble just yet
