i've tried several versions of the srm console stuff (i assume that's
what you're referring to here) over time (someone told me that an
older one would actually be able to write my settings in a manner that
they would not be forgotten between power cycles) and settled on one
that worked fine until about a week and a half ago (it having been
installed a while ago).  this reboot (and the few since then) it just
decided that he console wasn't working after i told it to boot.
