If the machine is failing you might not have a chance to try this, but
there is now code in -current to very verbosely display the machine
check errors generated by AS200/400 systems. I can build you a
-current kernel to try if you'd like.
In my case, the problem was due to damage done by overheating (ugh),
and the error I was getting was a cache parity error. I had to replace
the mainboard in that box.
