What version are you running?  1.4?  -current?  I don't have any
problems with 1.4.x, excepting that 1.4 is rather slow -- a bug
that was fixed in 1.4.1, IIRC.  On the other hand, I always start
X up via xdm.  Could you try that and see if it works?  That may
narrow the problem down a little.  Also, could you check what the
major and minors of /dev/wskbd0 and /dev/wsmouse0 are?
