Ye gods, what a typo. "cat /usr/share/misc/termcap" took *315* seconds
(yes, more than FIVE MINUTES), not 15 seconds (for comparison, it
takes 1.8 seconds on one of the virtual text terminals on the VGA
display of my p100 laptop).

Changing the emulation to sun instead of vt100 and setting SUNSCRL to
16 instead of 1 drops the time down to fifteen seconds, close to what
would be expected from cutting the number of scrolling operations by
16 and the size of the blit for each scroll in half.
