I have one on my home PC164:

	st0 at scsibus1 targ 5 lun 0: <DEC, TLZ06     (C)DEC, 491A> SCSI2 1/sequential removable
	st0: drive empty

works just fine.

Yes to the first question, and no to the second - if you only have one
tape device, it'll be /dev/*rst0.
