I was pretty sure before, and I'm very sure now :) I just did a
"sup -o", config'd my kernel, did a make clean && make depend && make
and am now running:

NetBSD yerfable.metonymy.com 1.4P NetBSD 1.4P (YERFABLE) #51: Thu Dec 2
16:01:22 CST 1999
khym@yerfable.metonymy.com:/usr/src.local/sys/arch/alpha/compile/YERFABLE
alpha

/usr/src.local/sys/arch/alpha/alpha/pmap.c:
     $NetBSD: pmap.c,v 1.121 1999/12/02 01:09:11 thorpej Exp $
     $NetBSD: pmap.c,v 1.121 1999/12/02 01:09:11 thorpej Exp $

and I still get occasional "Undefined PLT symbol" messages when saving
attachments in pine. Before mycroft's fix, pretty much all my daemons
would fail to start after a reboot. Now, the machine boots fine; pine
is the only program I've noticed as still having problems...

Hmm, I just got "main program: Undefined PLT symbol "strtoul" (reloc
type = 26, symnum = 230)" trying to start pine. This is pine 4.21,
compiled from pkgsrc, btw.
