Uh-oh, I have to learn to not chop information. guess what I found
further on in dmesg:

device PMAGD    at tc0 slot 3 offset 0x0 not configured

so I'd say its the other half of the test at console init time which
has problems. Maybe there is some ordering here which is causing
failure. I think I'll sweat a bit more first.
