We are sorry that you had such bad luck with 1.4, but I don't think that
your bug reports are being ignored. We are working on fixing them, but
sometimes it is difficult to duplicate the bugs on different hardware.

For example I cannot run 1.4 either on two of my machines. One has
'we' cards and it panics just after it enables ipf, and the other is
a no name amd-k6 box and it just keeps rebooting at the second stage
boot blocks. Should I go remove that we support from the i386, when
it works on so many other machines.

This works both ways: In order to stop claiming support for those
platforms, the portmaster needs to verify that they really don't work
and it is up to her/him to try to fix the bug, or remove the claims
of support.

Again we are sorry, and we hope that we will fix the problems soon.
