Given that kind of a budget, you might want to consider one of the new
21264-based systems.  Unfortunately,
 - They're not available yet (release October 1998)
 - Might not support SRM firmware (at least not on the low-end MBs)

One reseller who has info on their web page is Hard Data, at

I don't know if you can buy a '264-based workstation from
DEC^H^H^HCompaq yet.
