(that's from the serial console; i just fixed the problem that people
were seeing when using the serial on PC-ish machines to test-boot
kernels.)

i've not done any of the ISA interrupt handling code, nor ISA DMA
code, nor most of the generic PCI code (except for configuration-space
read and write).  There's still a long way to go before this is
usable, but there is visible progress.  8-)
