You can use INSTALL_MAKE_FLAGS instead of SUBST:
* INSTALLBIN=${BSD_INSTALL} and INSTALLAN=${BSD_INSTALL_MAN}
   instead of sed "-g bin -o root"
* PREFIX=${DESTDIR}${PREFIX}
