Did you try using "openapp TextEdit"?  That is the standard way to run GNUstep 
programs.  If you want to run the binary without using openapp, you'll find it 
under /usr/pkg/share/GNUstep/System/Applications/TextEdit.app/TextEdit.  
However, letting openapp find it for you is easier.
