Can you please add that note as a comment near the MAKE_JOBS_SAFE
definition too?

Any interesting .core and/or anything else around? On which platform
does that happen? (gmake crashing sounds bad, at least for NetBSD there
is PR kern/57145 "gmake: *** INTERNAL: readdir: Operation not supported.  Stop."
and on NetBSD/sh3 there is PR port-sh3/59466 "new gmake crashes when
trying to build libxml2")
