This seems to have broken various packages depending on MetaFont
generation. E.g. cat/fastcap now fails missing looking for tcrm1200
first, after installing tex-ec:

I can't find the base file `mf.base'!
grep: tcrm1200.log: No such file or directory
mktexpk: `mf-nowin -progname=mf \mode:=ljfour; mag:=1+0/600; nonstopmode; input tcrm1200' failed to make tcrm1200.600pk.
