The variables that affect should effect gawk output are:
- LC_ALL
- LC_CTYPE / LC_NUMERIC
- LANG
in decreasing order of priority. I'd go further and say that all this
manual logic is just wrong and it should be using setlocale(LC_CTYPE, "")
and then check what is actually requested by the user. Thanks for taking
