That's all fine and good, but my main point here is that the default
was changed yet nobody seems interested in fixing the fallout.  If you
are going to make changes which affect a significant percentage of
packages, you need to follow up and ensure you don't screw people
over.

When READLINE_DEFAULT=editline doesn't break so many packages, I'd be
more than happy to have a tech-pkg@ discussion about whether it should
be made the default, and would be happy to provide bulk build reports
to show any fallout.

And let's be clear again, this setting only affects systems where
there is no builtin libedit.  Given that most developers use NetBSD or
OSX, this is probably why there was no interest in fixing this.
