Yes.


Geez. I understood that destdir was a staging area, and it was safely equivalent to installing directly to $LOCALBASE. Now it sounds like a work area that you cherrypick what you want via PLIST. That means NetBSD could be installing these .la files there (not saying that it is, only that it might be happening) but they get ignored due to an incomplete PLIST.

now is this sloppy destdir situation rare, and vlc is just an unfortunate example or is this pretty common?
