I am the maintainer for this package.

I updated my local pkgsrc for this a while ago, but never committed.

I never committed because it requires gcc 3.x and I never figured out how
to get it do build correctly with gcc 2.95.x. And if using gcc 3.x, then
some of the dependency libraries must be build with gcc 3 also.

I brought this up on tech-pkg list a couple times.

I will have a look at your update -- hopefully it is useful on my NetBSD
1.6.2 system.

It also needs:

BUILDLINK_DEPENDS.boehm-gc+=	boehm-gc>=6.4
