I do the wip-only builds by setting

   PKGLIST=`cd /usr/pkgsrc/ && grep '^[[:space:]]*'SUBDIR wip/Makefile | sed 
's,SUBDIR.*=[[:space:]]*,wip/,'`

in the build.conf.
