 an update, after having been a trip via the openssh-unix-dev
 mailing list, and the discussion thread is available at

 and a fix was committed upstream:
 
    https://github.com/openssh/openssh-portable/commit/a765b86d
 
 Unless I hear objections, I'll take a stab at applying this to
 our pkgsrc openssh.
