 I (as the maintainer of ocaml) strongly disagree with adding this option in 
 any way, let alone as the default. Unsafe strings have been deprecated for 
 quite a while now in ocaml, and upstream have had enough time to get their act 
 together and fix their code (it's not rocket science). If a package that is 
 dependent on ocaml does not compile without unsafe strings, patches (or 
 preferably upgrades) should be applied to that package, not to ocaml as a 
 whole.
