Ben: We have not decided to use gnats for wip; wip is explicitly not part of pkgsrc
proper.  I do very much appreciate you working on merkaator.  I wonder if you are willing
to ask for access to wip (see https://pkgsrc.org/wip/ for instructions; basically you only have to
email an ssh pubkey).   It would be great if you can just commit your change there.
I don't actually use merkaator (josm and vespucci), but I didn't want to see it dropped
and am glad there's an update.

If for some reason you don't want to deal with wip yourself, I could apply this.
