I worked on exactly this in the last few days. See wip/MoarVM, wip/nqp and wip/rakudo. They build on Mac OS X but may not build on NetBSD at the moment. 

I was hoping to build the rakudo-star components as individual package but could not get Panda to work yet.

for what it's worth the build works fine manually.
