I have reproduced the bug on a NetBSD 6.99.40 amd64 system,
X11_TYPE=modular, system using pkgsrc cvs through

 Module Name: pkgsrc
 Date: Wed Apr 30 06:53:19 UTC 2014

 Modified Files:
         pkgsrc/inputmethod/ibus-qt: distinfo
         pkgsrc/inputmethod/ibus-qt/patches: patch-src_qibusserializable.cpp

 Log Message:
 upsteam Issue#1706.

that does not have tex-collection-fontsrecommended installed. This
 system has nothing set for
 PKG_OPTIONS.gs_type
in /etc/mk.conf so that it defaults to ghostscript-gpl.

One difference between the systems with
tex-collection-fontsrecommended installed and those without is that
 those with have a file

 /usr/pkg/share/texmf-dist/fonts/source/jknappen/tc/tcrm1000.mf

Debian may have encountered a similar bug

 https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=738402

"This bug results from a change from wheezy to jessie that moved the
ecrm font family from texlive-latex-recommended to
texlive-fonts-recommended. I guess that this is likely to break any
package that build-depends on the former and builds PDF for Texinfo
 documentation

  ...

Please adjust the build deps to include
 texlive-fonts-recommended

 ...

We follow upstream in this move and do not plan to undo the change
of moving these fonts back to tl-latex-recommended"
