Could you try to put following in a file and specify it as --mk-fragment option for bootstrap script? PREFER_PKGSRC+=openssl
Didn't have any effect on the bootstrap process, except that mk.conf now contains this definition. pkg_install is still linked against SSL from /usr/sfw.
