shape-engine='BasicEngineFc', font='Bitstream Vera Sans 11', text=''

 pkgsrc or native X?

I noticed a while ago that font rendering in pysolfc (which, however,
uses tk and doesn't go near pango) went to crap after an update to one
of the core X font libraries. If there's a problem at that level it
could bite pango too. But I haven't got around to tracking it down. :-/
