 I think then this issue is unrelated to the OS (Solaris.)
 I have heard there are various unsolved issues in pkgsrc when using symlinks,
 but I am probably not the person to track them down.
 
 Can we close this PR, and then you could open a new one with the symlink issue?
 (or the --prefix /usr/local/pkg/. issue?)
 
 I don't think this PR will get much more attention with the solaris
 specific title.
