The following reply was made to PR pkg/43518; it has been noted by GNATS.

 I should add, I'm using GCC, as provided by Sun back around the time I
 originally installed the OS.

 Reading specs from /usr/sfw/lib/gcc/i386-pc-solaris2.11/3.4.3/specs
 Configured with: /builds/sfwnv-86/usr/src/cmd/gcc/gcc-3.4.3/configure =
 --prefix=3D/usr/sfw --with-as=3D/usr/sfw/bin/gas --with-gnu-as =
 --with-ld=3D/usr/ccs/bin/ld --without-gnu-ld =
 --enable-languages=3Dc,c++,f77,objc --enable-shared
 Thread model: posix
 gcc version 3.4.3 (csl-sol210-3_4-20050802)

 The pkgsrc guide says "Please note that the use of GNU binutils on
 Solaris is not supported, as of June 2006." But ld(1) found at
 /usr/ccs/bin is GNU ld 2.15.

 The guide also says "It is recommended that an external gcc be used
 only for bootstrapping, then either build gcc from lang/gcc or install
 a binary gcc package, then remove gcc used during bootstrapping."
 I can't try with a GCC from pkgsrc, since they require libiconv...
