 Just look at the configure script which checks for libttf but it does
 this by checking known directories and /usr/pkg/... is in the list of
 known directories and so it finds the old freetype1 library.
 So the buildlink infrastructure is not used at all.
 
 The list of known directories also includes /usr/X11R6 and that is imho
 the reason why a lot of other x11 libraries can not be found for 5.0
 and so e.g XINERAMA and XPM are not enabled.
 
 The --with-mesagl options is now --with-mesa but that does not work too
 because of the hardcoded check for /usr/X11R6 which no longer works after
 we switched to /usr/X11R7.
 
 There is patch-ab which removes some of the checks for such directories
 but only from a few places.
 
 That was the point where I stopped.
