 Looking more closely, the build directory:
 
    ${WRKOBJDIR}/graphics/glu/work/Mesa-7.4.2/src/glu/sgi
 
 contains a a file "glu.exports.darwin", which would appear to be a
 pre-generated symbol export file that MacOS X can cope with.  Need to
 figure out how to tell the system to use it instead of the one that's
 dynamically generated.
 
 It would seem leading underscores are OK, but there shouldn't be any
 intervening whitespace.
