 maintainer-mode generally enables things like extra warnings and
 -Werror that you don't need or necessarily even want unless you're
 hacking on the package.
 
 The question is whether in this case turning it off is just masking a
 real problem, and I don't know for sure. Although it doesn't really
 look like it.
