When using pkg_add to add many packages, but particularly pidgin-2.5.3, the 
pkg_add hangs at the ftpclose. Each FTP command then takes about half an hour 
to timeout.

FTP works outside pkg_add. The host machine - a repurposed Neostation 3000 thin 
client, is a bit odd, particularly with regards to interrupts - but normal FTP 
is as mentioned, working fine.
