 I modified pkg_add to do that a few years ago and used it for a few years 
 on Linux and NetBSD.
 
 Overtime, I stopped continuing to try to keep pkg_install source in sync.
 
 It was in pkgsrc-wip but I don't see now. And there was a PR for it too.
