 Sorry about the year-long delay in testing your fix.  :-(
 
 Anyway, I finally reinstalled Perl yesterday (from 2006Q4, under
 NetBSD-3.1-i386 this time), after making sure that my environment variable
 SYSTYPE was set to "netbsd".
 
 It seemed to install properly, including a2p, and now my test program
 works.  I would call this successfully fixed.  Many thanks!
