 I got inkscape to build by compiling with the -no-integrated-cpp gcc flag and 
 it seems to run fine. Preprocessing that specific file manually first (with 
 cpp or gcc -E) and then compiling the output also avoided the crash. So looks
 like the problem is related to gcc's built-in preprocessor. Still no idea if
 this is specific to my machine. I'm using the base system gcc 3.3.3.
