I still want to have the config.log output. Joerg

just make a super short program with a call to bindtextdomain().  Then

gcc -o foo foo.c

and it will compile and link with no complaints on solaris. This is the test that subversion uses. Unfortunately this doesn't get all the stuff you need from -lintl.
