 In fact, the builtin.mk files already does that.
 
 If it does not do that, then it is because the builtin.mk thinks that you 
 have existing headers that are good enough.
 
 Can you please provide a little info from your Solaris system?
 
 After you do a "bmake clean", the do a "bmake configure" (which may fail) 
 and provide:
 
 grep -i fixes work/.extract_makevars.mk
 
 For example, on one of my BSD systems with no native X I have:
 
 H_XFIXESPROTO=  /home/reed/pkg/include/X11/extensions/xfixesproto.h
 H_XFIXESWIRE=   /home/reed/pkg/include/X11/extensions/xfixeswire.h
 IS_BUILTIN.fixesproto=  no
 USE_BUILTIN.fixesproto= no
