I cannot reproduce this, and I tried a plain wallpaper as well as gradient
ones. I am running XFree86 from a "recent" xsrc and, according to xdpyinfo,
I do have the RENDER extension. I use the nv driver; which is yours?
Any chances you can test this with a recent pkgsrc?
