   | I'm a bit confused which version you think is needed -- you talk
   | about a different one in the text than you use in the patch.

Oops, sorry, fixed it manually, and then just assumed I knew what I
was doing when I looked at the Makefile. Bad idea!

   | Also, could you please provide the error message and the config.log
   | (I guess it fails in configure?).

Yes, that's where it failed. Supplying config.log stuff may be
tricky, as I'm using pkg_comp, which insists on cleaning up everything...

The complaint was that XML::Parser had to be installed, and to please
update something or other to include it. My assumption was that some
test to see whether it was there or not was failing, because the version
I had installed could not do (or not in the expected way) whatever test
configure was running - since upgrading to the latest p5-XML-Parser
fixed the problem trivially easily, that seemed like a simple enough
thing to require (pity I didn't manage to actually do that in the diff
 that I sent!)

But I'll see what I can do - I can easily put the old p5-XML-Parser
back (I have its binary package) and try building again, and send another
addition to this PR. Just have to wait a few minutes for some other
stuff I'm building to get out of the way.
