pkgsrc creates work directories in the source directory unless you
define the WRKOBJDIR variable in mk.conf or elsewhere. In that case
the work directory is created under the given path and a symlink
is create in the source directory.
If the source directory is read-only the symlink is not created
but this isn't seen as an error.
There is an undocumented variable CREATE_WRKDIR_SYMLINK that will
also prevent the symlink from being created if you set it to 'no'.
That variable however is not documented in the pkgsrc guide.
