Trouble building in pkgsrc...

Last week I was able to install NetBSD 3.0, download pkgsrc, unzip it 
to /usr, and then go ahead and start building applications.

Today, I tried reinstalling NetBSD 3.0, downloaded pkgsrc, unzipped it 
to /usr but when I try to build I get all kinds of errors.  I am a unix 
command line noob and cannot figure out how to get the output to 
redirect into a file so I can post it.  :(  Sorry.  I tried make > t.t 
but only some of the output (not the errors) were dumped into the file.

40: Malformed conditional (!empty(_USE_TOOLS:Mgmake))
... Malformed conditional (!empty(_USE_TOOLS:Mimake) && 
defined(IMAKE_MAKE))

..then follows...

../../mk/tools/../../mk/tools/../mk/tools/make.mk

...followed by...

../../mk/tools/../../mk/tools/bsd.tools.mk" line 218: if-less endif
../../mk/tools/../../mk/tools/bsd.tools.mk" line 218: need an operator

As far as I can tell, I have done nothing different from last week to 
this week, which leads me to believe something has changed in the 
pkgsrc tarball?
